As we all know, everyone has probably been taught that humans have five senses: smell, vision, hearing, touch, and taste. An under-appreciated sixth sense called “proprioception”, allows the people to keep track of where our body parts are in space.

Steve Mann who is known as the “Father of Sixth SenseTechnology” made a wearable computing device in 1990. It is a wearable gesture an interface that enhances the physical world around us, with its digital information, and lets the people use a natural hand gesture to interact with that information.


It is just the beginning of this new era of technology where engineering will reach its milestones. As you see in the science fiction movies where the display of computer screen appears on walls, commands are given by gestures, the smart digital environment which talks to us to do our work and many more, these all will be possible very soon. This all is possible through sixth sense technology. 

If we see a few years back, these all are considered to be supernatural and tantalizing imaginations. But if you see now, it has been made possible.

WHAT EXACTLY THE SIXTH SENSE IS?

Sixth sense technology has integrated these real-world objects with its digital world. This sixth sense technology is a blend of many exquisite technologies and the things which make it magnificent is the marvelous integration of all those technologies and presents into a single economical as well portable product. It associates technology like hand gesture recognition, processing, image capturing, and manipulation. This technology superimposes the digital world in the real world.

If you research then you find out that at least one type of ‘’sixth sense” isn’t real, new researchers examined that “people can sense things that they believe they cannot see”, such as changes in the persons appearance said by the study co-author Piers Howe, a vision scientist at the University of Melbourne in Australia.

Every human being interacts with the world using our five senses. We all have heard many times about some persons who use their sixth senses to predict any situation, and here comes the concept of sixth sense technology which is extrasensory perception.

 Yes, human has at least six senses: Taste, smell, vision, hearing, touch, and awareness of one’s body in space.


A new study suggests that the last sense is called proprioception may have a genetic basis.  “Proprioception ” this term refers, how your brain understands where and which part of our body is in space. You  can take an example of a policeman and a drunken person, “when a police man ask a drunken person to touch their finger to the tip of their nose, on that time they are testing the “sense of proprioception”.

This sixth sense technology aims to develop the future with both the physical world and the digital world without the help of any hardware. After the invention of the sixth sense technology by Steve Mann, it was used and implemented by an Indian, and it made it possible to interact with the digital world using our hand gestures.

In the field of artificial intelligence, this technology has a very bright future.

HOW IT REALLY WORKS?

It has the use of a camera, a mirror, and a projector and is connected wirelessly to a Bluetooth smartphone that can slip comfortably into one’s pocket, and the most important: the hardware that makes Sixth Sense work is like a pendant, mobile wearable interface. This information is sent to the smartphone for processing. The downward-facing projector projects the output image on the mirror and the mirror reflects the image on the desired surface. Digital information is freed from its confines and gets placed in this physical world.

APPLICATION OF THE SIXTH SENSE TECHNOLOGY:

     I.            Call up a map:

With the use of the map application we can call up the map of our choice and then we can use thumbs and index fingers to navigate the map.

 II.            Zooming features

With the help of this feature the user can zoom in or zoom out using the intuitive hand movements.


III.            Make a call

By using this feature a user can use the sixth sense to project a keypad onto your hand, then use that virtual keypad to make a call. Isn’t it great?

IV.            Drawing application

This drawing application let the user draw on any the surface he wants by just tracking the fingertip movements of the user’s index finger.

 V.            Get book information

This system can also project Amazon ratings on that book, as well as reviews other important information regarding that.

VI.            Take Pictures

If you fashion your thumb and index fingers  into a square framing gesture, this system will snap a photo.

And after taking the desired number of photos, the user can also, project them onto a surface, and then use gesture to sort through the photos, organize and resize them as well.
